Welcome to Freight Car System Overhaul! We’ve made a range of updates to the Freight Car Depot to improve it.
In this article, we’ll walk you through the new changes, explain how the updated system works, and show you what to expect when managing your freight cars from now on.
A New Home for the Freight Car Depot and New Animations
The Freight Car Depot is moving right next to the Locomotive Depot. Your locomotives and wagons in one place, where they belong. The previous position in the west of the Rail Yard was easy to miss for many players.
The new position also influences how trains are dismantled after a completed journey. Now the locomotive will pull freight cars to the west into the depot. This is both more realistic and should also reduce bottlenecks at the entry rails to the station.
As before, you will be able to see your freight car fleet parked outside, as is the case in real-life railyards.
Overhauled UI
The freight car UI is getting a solid overhaul so you always know which cars are being used for your current job.
We are also improving the option to manage the amount of incoming goods per train so you can bring in exactly as much material as you need. Just tap the blue freight car button when a train is selected.
Goodbye Unlimited Freight Cars
We have retired the original freight car system, which combined unlimited low-capacity cars with manually buying more powerful ones. It was poorly understood by both new and experienced players.
New Simple System
The new system is straightforward — you use only the freight cars you own. Cars are stored in the Freight Car Depot. If you need more, you can buy more. If you need a larger depot, you upgrade the capacity. Each era, more powerful cars become available. That's it. The freight car depot screen is also getting a major visual facelift to make everything more intuitive.
This comes with several improvements to help players use the new system.
- The prices of all freight cars have been reduced by 40–50%.
- The count of freight cars available for purchase has doubled. Combined with the reduced costs, this means you get double the cargo capacity for the same money.
- All new players receive a starter set of freight cars at the beginning of the game.
- Premium freight cars purchased with gems do not take up depot space.
Scrap Old Freight Cars
The long-requested ability to scrap freight cars and free up your depot is finally here. Not only that — scrapping rewards you with Scrap Metal, which you can spend on newer wagons or daily shop rewards.
Help for Current Players
To help you adjust to the changes, every existing player will receive a generous fleet of high-capacity freight cars — completely free! The type and amount of cars given is based on your current era. Along with that, your freight car depot level will be boosted to reflect your current progression. This is free as well. After the update goes live, just open your Freight Car Depot and you'll see your updated fleet waiting for you.
Depot Capacity and Company Task Changes
These changes will cause the number of freight cars in your depot to go up significantly. To compensate for this, depot capacity limits and related company tasks have been adjusted accordingly.

These changes will be included in the upcoming update 2.0.0 available from around 27th May 2026.
