🚆Rail Yard 2.0🚆
Rail Yard 2.0 – What's Changed
It's been a year since launch. And there's one thing we've wanted to fix almost from day one.
The Rail Yard is where you spend most of your time. Where 90% of your empire gets built. It deserved to look the part. That’s why a major visual upgrade is coming in update 2.0.0, available from around 27th May 2026.
Visual Overhaul
We started from the ground up. Nature, terrain, water — all of it reworked. But that's just the backdrop. Nearly every building in the Rail Yard has been visually upgraded. And a few of them got a lot more than that.
Locomotive Depot
The Locomotive Depot now has a working turntable. Your locomotives come in off the main line, rotate, and park up alongside the rest of your fleet. Your depot, your engines — actually on display.
Freight Car Depot
The Freight Car Depot has moved. It used to sit off to the west — easy to overlook. It's now where it belongs: right next to your Locomotive Depot and warehouse, integrated into the heart of the operation. Your wagons are here, your locomotives are here, your cargo flow makes sense.
Passenger Station
The Passenger Station has had a significant visual overhaul. And for the first time, you'll actually see your passenger sets parked at the depot. Your fleet, always in view.
Factories
Every factory has been redesigned to be instantly recognizable and genuinely alive — with animations that show production actually happening. We've also connected every factory to the warehouse by rail, because a logistics hub should look like one.
Traction Substation
First - and we know a lot of you have been asking for this - the Traction Substation. This building lets you construct electric catenaries above your station. Available from 1934, with a modernized version unlocking in 1970. It's a visual feature, but one that changes how your station feels entirely.
Main Rails
Main Rails - the through-lines that carry your heavy hauls, fuel trains, and legendary train offers - can now be built manually. Previously they were tied to the cargo crane upgrade, which was never obvious enough. From now on, you control when they go in.
Older players will find them already upgraded. And down the line, we're planning full concrete sleeper upgrades for the entire station.
Post Office
The building next to your Headquarters - the one that never really did anything - is now a Post Office. Tap it to browse your archive of past in-game news. Small touch, but a clean one.
City Parcels
Every era now has one additional land parcel. That's roughly 25% more buildable space across the board. We want you to have room to build the way you actually want to build.
If you've already played through earlier eras, you'll get those parcels for free. Parcels in your current and future eras are available to purchase as usual. Newly unlocked plots are now clearly marked so you don't have to hunt for them.
What's Next
This is the Rail Yard as it should have always looked. And we're not done.
Era-appropriate architecture for 1970 through 2020.
Seasonal terrain changes like snow.
Visual building customization.
New mechanics for era progression and events.
One year in. A lot more to come.
How to get the Update
These changes will be included in the upcoming update 2.0.0 available from around 27th May 2026.
